Así consta en la orden que el Ministerio de Industria ha remitido a la Comisión Nacional de Energía (CNE) y por la que se revisan los peajes de acceso, la parte regulada de la tarifa eléctrica a la que están acogidos la mayoría de los consumidores y pequeños comercios. Se trata de una decisión que ya contemplaba el Ministerio de Industria desde la puesta en marcha del bono social.
En virtud de esta disposición, el departamento que dirige Miguel Sebastián posibilitará a las eléctricas firmar convenios de colaboración con las instituciones públicas responsables del mantenimiento y de la gestión de las respectivas bases de datos.
Desde que entró en vigor el 1 de julio de 2009, al bono social pueden acogerse todos los usuarios con una potencia de hasta 3 kilovatios (kW) en su primera vivienda, las familias numerosas, aquellas que tienen a todos los miembros en paro, o los pensionistas con prestación mínima.
Asimismo, los comercializadores de la tarifa eléctrica de último recurso (TUR), la única que regula el Gobierno y que pueden contratar los consumidores con una potencia inferior o igual a los 10 Kilovatios (kW), deben mandar al Instituto Nacional de la Seguridad Social la lista de los beneficiados del bono social por su condición de pensionistas.

A finales del pasado año, y dentro de un paquete de medidas para reducir en 4.616 millones los costes del sistema eléctrico durante los próximos tres años, el Ejecutivo amplió seis meses más, hasta 2013, el bono social ante la actual coyuntura económica y con el fin de proteger a los consumidores más vulnerables.
