Durante su intervención en el acto de conmemoración del XXV aniversario del Club Español de la Energía (Enerclub), José Ángel Gurría también aludió a la «excesiva regulación de precios» y a los sistemas de «subsidios» en el sector energético, que han conducido a que los consumidores no paguen el coste real del producto.
En este sentido, apeló a la necesidad de «fijar un precio más aceptable para las emisiones de CO2» y «castigarlas con precios, impuestos y todo lo que haya que aventarle encima». «No hacerlo sólo servirá para estimular el consumo» de hidrocarburos, advirtió.
Gurría aseguró además que el sector energético está experimentando un «cambio cualitativo» en el que «la cultura del carbón está desahuciada». «España tiene que liderar la transformación convirtiendo el medio ambiente en uno de los motores», afirmó.
El secretario general de la OCDE calificó además de «muy interesantes» los procesos de liberalización eléctrica en España, la capacidad de su sector energético para crear empleo y el desarrollo logrado por la eólica.
En la implantación de modelos energéticos futuros, añadió, «no se puede dejar todo en manos de los mercados», sino que se requiere «un tipo de política que garantice un crecimiento no basado en los combustibles fósiles».
Gurría también aludió al desastre nuclear de Fukushima al lamentar que el incidente, en vez de provocar «una reflexión sobre la seguridad», haya generado un temor «extralógico y excesivo» hacia esta fuente de generación. «La nuclear sigue siendo parte de la solución», aseveró.
