Ecologistas en Acción denuncia el derroche energético que genera la iluminación navideña en ciudades
Según informa la organización, en el año 2007, el Instituto para la Diversificación y el Ahorro Energético (IDAE), organismo dependiente del Ministerio de Industria, recomendaba que el alumbrado navideño se encendiera entre el día 15 de diciembre y el 6 de enero, en un horario limitado, y utilizando iluminación de bajo consumo. Sin embargo, aunque debido a la crisis algunos ayuntamientos han decidido ahorrar energía respecto al año pasado, la mayoría de los ayuntamientos mantendrán la iluminación navideña entre el 1 de diciembre y el 6 de enero y otros, como el ayuntamiento de Madrid, comenzaron el 25 de noviembre.
Esta «irresponsable actuación» tiene como consecuencia, según Ecologistas en Acción, el gasto de millones de euros de los contribuyentes, con el fin de fomentar las compras navideñas. En ese sentido, critica que muchos ayuntamientos lleguen en estas fechas a acuerdos con los comercios para que paguen parte de la factura eléctrica y muchos alcaldes justifiquen el gasto en iluminación con la excusa de fomentar el consumo.
Por ello, pide preguntarse si la única manera de salir de la crisis es el incremento del consumo sin más, o si se debe apostar por un modelo en el que las necesidades de todos los seres humanos estén cubiertas y donde se pueda disfrutar de las fiestas sin tener que realizar desembolsos que perjudiquen al bolsillo y a un planeta del que se extraen más recursos que los que es capaz de regenerar.
En ese sentido, Ecologistas en Acción apuesta por un modelo de racionalización del consumo en el que, sin renunciar a una verdadera calidad de vida, sea posible un equilibrio con los medios que ofrece la naturaleza. Así, afirma que tener las ciudades bonitas durante las fiestas «no es incompatible con este objetivo», pero es imprescindible acabar con el derroche y limitar la iluminación navideña a días señalados, en un horario más reducido que el actual, y con electricidad proveniente de fuentes renovables.
